Coming Soon: Evans, Evans & Evans
Showing From Thursday, 5th February 2009
The Foundry has hosted all sorts of groups of exhibitors from groups of individual artists banded together, to long established collaborations or recently set up co-operatives but this is the first time we can say the gallery will host a family of artists.
The Evans are father, Alun, mother Liz and daughter Angharad. All three have followed the artistic route throughout their education and careers. Mother and daughter are both graduates in Fine Art, which Angharad decided to follow with an MA from Leeds University. Alun began with his first degree in Painting and Printmaking before also turning Fine Art by completing his Masters Degree. All three have been deeply involved in sharing their skills and experience with others – Alun spent many years lecturing in art in Cheshire Colleges (though he now works full time in his Frodsham studio; Liz has taught in London and Cheshire, as well as directing residential painting course in Wales and France; Angharad was a full time teacher at Harrogate Grammar School before taking a break to travel across Australasia, which included a spell working at the gallery in Darling Harbour, Sydney, before returning to work at Sir John Deane's 6th form college where she is currently employed.
Despite their shared passion for art and their similar career paths they each have unique and distinctive styles and influences giving their works very different characters:
Alun Evans
Alun’s work takes the landscapes of North Cheshire, the Mersey Estuary and Wales, looking at the link between the resource of the natural environment and the needs of the communities which it supports.

Liz Evans
“Life is energised, life is dynamic, life changes, life is never still”is Liz’s reaction to the description ‘Still Life’ to describe her work.Though her works are inspired by inanimate objects – containers to be precise – it is her analysis of the movement and light around the objects that colours her interpretation.“The light animates the stillness.”
Angharad Evans
The work displayed by Angharad have been inspired by her recent travels to Peru.Having kept a record book during her journey which she crammed with sketches and notes as she travelled, she has reflected on her experiences and they have evolved into her works.
With art running deeply in the blood of this family this show is sure to be a sensational start to The Foundry Gallery’s 2009 season.
The Evans’ will be running from the Launch Event on the evening of 5th February until early March.
