Award Winning Artist - Mo Vyse

“Painting is my passion: it gives me the opportunity to stop, look, listen and feel the landscape reflecting on nature and our place in the order of things. Using paint as a method of investigation, I paint mainly plein air as this gives me the opportunity to be part of the landscape, I then become part of the nature and the environment, painting what I feel rather than a visual representation.”

The Foundry are very pleased to welcome award-winning artist Mo Vyse.Mo has exhibited at The Foundry before as part of the Red Shed Collective, but we are excited to launch her first solo show here.

Mo has just finished an MA in Fine Art at The School of Art, Wrexham. Researching ‘water in the landscape’; she has examined the last 100 years, looking at how our relationship with our environment has changed, questioning whether we now consider water as an unlimited commodity as opposed to a limited resource. Her aim throughout the collection is to bring water, as a river in the landscape, to the attention of the viewer.

Much of Mo’s inspiration is drawn from the area in which she lives – Mid Wales, along the Welsh border: “I find my inspiration all around me and in the quietness of the landscape I feel happy. Painting allows me my freedom and, in a way, I allow the paint to have its own freedom, pulling and pushing it, it is a constant action of engagement, almost like a dance between me, the medium and the landscape. In this ‘action of painting’ I find my own space where a few hours seem like minutes – I am in my own time bubble where nothing seems to penetrate, almost like a meditation, but it is not always as calm as it sounds”.

Using a variety of paint, although preferring oil, Mo will often mix oils, acrylics, gouache, water etc while occasionally using other media such as photograms, photographs, print or collage.
